Treatment Advances for Women with Over Active Bladder or Bowel Control Issues.

“Why is This Happening to Me?”

(You are NOT alone!)

The Cause?

There are a number of factors that can lead to female incontinence or bladder control problems.  These include pregnancy (single or multiple), genetics, race, hysterectomies, obesity and pelvic muscle weakness.

As the number of baby boomers increase, so do the number of age-related health concerns. Bladder control (incontinence) occurs in more than 60% of post-menopausal women. It’s important women understand bladder or bowel control problems are not a natural part of aging. No matter what you’ve been told, you don’t have to “just live with it.”

Treatment Options:

  • Dietary changes can decrease production of bladder irritants
  • Pelvic Floor Rehab – “Kegels”
  • Medications can be added to improve success rates
    • “Bladder Cocktails” – specially conconcted lavages
  • Pessaries
  • Slings
  • Bulking agents for bladder or bowel
  • Interstim Neuromodulators “Bladder or Bowel Pacemakers”

Interstim Neuromodulators, which are described as “pacemakers”, improve symptoms in 60-80% of patients with overactive bladder symptoms and 80% with bowel control symptoms. These are easily placed under the skin in less than 30 minutes, without having to undergo general anesthesia.  A simple office test can be performed initially to determine if the battery would work for you.
